Quality by Design opens new office in California30/01/2019 - Stephanie Verwimp, Marketing & Communication Manager
QbD is opening a brand new office in the US. The office, named ‘Quimera Quality Inc, partner of the QbD Group, and located in Redwood City (California) will be led by the experienced Freya Wolles. QbD’s presence in the US is an enormous asset for life science companies that want to cross the Atlantic.
Bart Van Acker, CEO at QbD: “California is a region with a vast potential for our industry. The world’s largest biotech cluster is located there, for example. Because we have a lot of know-how in consultancy as well as in legislation in both countries, we can perfectly support both European companies that want to settle in the US and American companies that want to do the same in Europe. This is a unique proposition in the market.”
The office in California acts primarily as a sales office. The office will be run by the Belgian Freya Wolles. She has thirteen years of experience in the field of computer system validation and custom software qualification. Bart Van Acker: “Freya and I go way back, even before QbD was founded, and I am sure that she is the ideal candidate to sell our services locally. She is very experienced in the execution of projects as well as in the development of a consultancy team. When it comes to bigger projects, she can rely on the resources of our office in Mexico. We will of course also offer QbD Software in the US. At present, big names such as research center OIRRC and renowned biotech pioneer GILEAD have already bought our software.”
Freya Wolles, CEO at Quimera, is very happy with this new step in her career. “After more than five years as a Business Unit Manager Quality & Compliance at a company in Mechelen (Belgium), I felt the need to go beyond the Belgian borders and to use my expertise for the development of my own consultancy organization. I’ve always known QbD to be a successful consultancy company that continuously offers qualitative service. After a meeting with Bart, he decided to become shareholder of my start-up. The fact that I was able to establish my company as a part of the international QbD Group has really given me a boost.”
Continuing the expansion
The move to the US is a new step in the rapid international expansion that QbD has experienced over the past few years. The Belgian company currently has offices in The Netherlands, Spain, Mexico, Colombia and the US and employs of over 175 people worldwide.
